The King’s Daughters, founded in 1896 as the Norfolk City Union of The King’s Daughters, established what is known today as CHKD, the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters. This volunteer organization has a fascinating history of caring for children starting with a hired nurse on a bicycle, to opening a clinic, to building a modern stand-alone pediatric hospital.
